Here is a timeline of the funds used to support hyperjet fusion research:

  • 1996-1999: The basic concept of Plasma Jet Magneto Inertial Fusion (PJMIF) and what is now known as hyperjet fusion is researched using private funds of ($0.5 million)
  • 1999-2004: Pioneering development of hyperjet fusion at NASA Marshall Space Flight Center and the University of Alabama in Huntsville (~$6M)
  • 2004-2014: Preliminary concept exploration by the DOE Office of Fusion Energy Sciences (~$16M)
  • 2015-Present: Concept exploration by DOE Advanced Research Project Agency for Energy (ARPA-E) ($5.9M)
  • 2017: Seed investment funding from Strong Atomics Inc.
